May 31st 2010 marks Detail Recording‘s debut release and it sees LYNX & KEMO team up once more for an amazing piece of atmospheric drum n bass with one eye firmly on the dancefloor. Featured as Mixmag’s tune of the month and dj support from all the major dnb djs. As well as the original dnb mix there’s also a cracking dubstep mix from Seed, a chunky breaks mix from RuN RiOT, and there’s also a house mix and a glitch mix from Loose Spring Steve. So, the choice is yours… What is YOUR poison?!
This month sees the release of LYNX & KEMO’s epic D&B journey ‘The Raw Truth’ on Marcus Intalex’s evergreen imprint SOUL:r. Deep, funky and with more soul than 100 Blaze records, IDJ loved it so much we actually reviewed it (and featured LYNX, the man responsible for 2008′s massive D&B club smash ‘Disco Dodo’) three months too early.
With “The Raw Truth LP” out on June 1, we rang Marcus to see how we could remind you how massive this album deserves to be without resorting to tired and turgid repetition. “Get me a remix…” were his simple words.
This competition is open to producers of ALL styles, no just D&B. As this issue states, genres are about as useful as a solar-powered glo-stick these days. ‘The Raw Truth’ is a fine example, as LYNX & KEMO skillfully join the dots between D&B, Jazz, Downtempo, Soul and traditional tribal rhythms.
A label dedicated to longevity and not just fly-by-night dancefloor bangers, obviously SOUL:r aren’t going to release any old tat, but if you think you got what it takes to complement the LYNX & KEMO single ‘Global Enemies’ with your own original work, read on to find out exactly how you can do it.
All entries will be judgd by Lynx, Kemo and Marcus Intalex and the winner will be notified by SOUL:r. As with all rmix competitions, originality and creative flare are essential! …
And that, to quote LYNX & KEMO, is the raw truth. Good Luck!
“The Raw Truth is an album that leans towards being many things, Hip Hop, Drum & Bass, R’n’B, even Dubstep but what it actually is, is none of them and all of them at the same time. It’s something quite unique, a sound that is as individual as Drum & Bass has ever been, and more importantly it’s a sound that can hopefully change peoples opinions on what Drum & Bass is. It’s music from two artists, as opposed to a DJ and an MC, not aimed directly at the dance floor but still having enough edge and DJ sensibilities to find itself in all the record boxes throughout the scene.
The Raw Truth is an LP for your headphones, an LP full of songs and stories. Not only an album that portrays an MC’s struggle to find peace with both himself and the world at large but also and an album that showcases this unique producers skills to the utmost. Out of the fifteen tracks, only four are instrumentals. Not a usual statistic for Drum & Bass, but then again this in not your usual Drum & Bass LP. -Marcus Intalex Feb ‘09.
Lynx & Kemo clearly demonstrate that they are not afraid to break the mould. Being championed by DJs as diverse as High Contrast, DJ Pinch, Laurent Garnier, Zed Bias, Doc Scott, Fabio and DJ Hype.”
The album is finally finished and ready for press and here is an exclusive sneak peak at the look, feel and vibe…
LYNX & KEMO – “The Raw Truth”
>Soundtrack to future revolution<
(Out on Soul:r – June 1st 2009)
In a world of lies, corruption and superficiality, these inner city rebels refuse to play along. Perfecting orchestra, detailed compositions, Lynx has been referred to as the future of Drum & Bass for his progressive ideas and technical genius. Kemo gives the revolutionary movement a voice wth his deep, moody poetry –rapped with eloquent flow, spoken with utmost sincerity. Strength lies not in volume, but in depth and balance. The songs are laced with elaborate songwriting, reduced to the core concept, and the essence is undelined and highlighted. The songs contain gigantic peaks reached through silent gaps. Everything has a purpose. Space is essential. This is full spectrum music. From the soul. Urban, yet organic, the Lynx & Kemo sound is both sophisticated and street. “The Raw Truth” is a timeless album that belongs in the shelf alongside Massive Attack, Burial, Tricky, Prodigy, Faithless and Wu-Tang Clan. No need to label this Hip Hop, Drum & Bass, Dubstep fusion. This is true music from the soul. Songs not singles. Combining to a soundtrack to future revolution.
